Planning a Passenger Lift for an Apartment Development
Early coordination helps avoid expensive changes after the lift shaft and structure are built. HEC can work with the client, architect, main contractor and consulting engineer to review capacity, travel, traffic, accessibility, fire strategy, delivery access and the intended maintenance arrangement.
Information HEC Needs to Price the Lift
Before quotation, provide the number of floors and entrances; intended capacity and car size; available shaft dimensions; pit depth and headroom; structural and landing-opening details; electrical supply; accessibility requirements; proposed finishes; remote communications requirements; programme; site access; and expected maintenance and response support.
Builders’ Works and Interfaces
The quotation and programme should state who is responsible for the shaft and pit, supports and structural openings, landing thresholds and architraves, temporary protection, lifting and unloading, working platforms, permanent power, ventilation, drainage, fire stopping and final making good. Fire-rating and smoke-control provisions for landing doors must follow the project fire strategy and competent design advice.
Lead Times, Installation and Handover
The programme normally includes design approval, manufacture, shipping, installation, testing and commissioning. Dates depend on timely technical approvals and a safe, complete and dimensionally correct shaft. Handover should include the relevant test and commissioning records, operating information, owner or caretaker familiarisation and an agreed maintenance plan.
